Ghost Hunting Device Leads to Murder Charge
A late-night ghost hunt with a paranormal meter took a deadly turn when a Pennsylvania man, gripped by drug-induced fear, fatally shot his girlfriend of seven years.
A 46-year-old man, Jared Wolfe, has been accused of murdering his girlfriend, Jane White, when they went to visit friends; shooting her dead The accident occurred on Jan. 3.
Wolfe and White had been dating for seven years, police said, and went to a friend’s house, where they did drugs. Wolfe got very frightened after smoking what he initially said was marijuana. He applied a paranormal meter, which he said pointed to unusual readings on the statue that frightened him.
Wolfe told police that he had become convinced that White and their friends wanted to hurt him. He dashed to his car to retrieve his gun, which he wasn’t permitted to carry. When White opened the car door to follow him, he shot her. Later, when police suggested that she might have simply been trying to leave with him, he said this was possible.
Instead of assisting White after shooting her, Wolfe drove to his brother’s house and informed him about the incident. His brother quickly called emergency services, but White could not be saved by the time medical help arrived.
Now, Wolfe is up against seven separate charges — the most serious of which is first-degree murder. He also faces charges for illegal possession of a firearm and endangerment. He is now locked up without bail.
Wolfe’s lawyers have said they intend to argue that his mental health contributed to what occurred. A judge has ruled there’s enough evidence for Wolfe to go to trial on all seven counts.
