The concept of remotely influencing actions and behavior through a device is undoubtedly unsettling, although it currently remains a work in progress.
The pioneering work was achieved by a team of researchers from the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in South Korea who were focused on discovering innovative treatments for neurological conditions.
Dubbed the Nano-Magnetogenetic Interface for NeuroDynamics (Nanon-MIND), the device functions by leveraging magnetized nanoparticles and short-range magnetic field apparatus to pinpoint distinct brain areas.
In a study involving mice, scientists successfully elicited a significant enhancement in maternal and caregiving behaviors by activating the brain region linked to maternal instincts.
