UFOs in Space: What One Astronaut’s Wife Found Out

The wife of an astronaut with NASA says she has heard some fascinating stories about UFOs and possible alien encounters from her husband after he returned from his space missions.

Going to space is a fantastic experience few get to experience. These astronauts have witnessed events most of us can only dream about.

Anita Mitchell was the wife of the NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth person to walk on the moon, in 1971. Her husband spoke frequently about strange sightings during his missions, she told the Daily Mail.

“He always believed that there were UFOs out there, because so many of the pilots and astronauts had seen something,” she said.

Other astronauts have claimed to see strange objects and crafts while in space, James McDivitt being one of them, Anita said.

At a dinner party in the home of the Mitchells, astronaut Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr. spoke of his own experience. “I remember Gordy telling us at a dinner party in our house that he had seen something. He said ‘Listen, we have nothing that goes that fast and goes that high’.”

Anita talked to so many fascinating NASA astronaut wives that she wrote a book titled, “You Don’t Look Like An Astronaut’s Wife.” She was married to Edgar from 1973 to 1984. Edgar Mitchell died in 2016.

Edgar was a firm believer in extraterrestrial life. He urged the U.S. government to release any secret information it has about UFOs to the public.

He said in 2009: “We are being visited. This is the time to end this embargo of truth on the alien presence! I urge our government to (s)pace up… and join this planetary community that is now attempting to take its rightful place as an interplanetary civilization.”

Edgar also believed that the exploration of space was critical for the survival of mankind. “The sun will burn out in due course and we have to be off this planet if our species is to survive,” he warned.

Anita Mitchell shares her late husband’s belief: “Do you honestly think we are the only intelligence in the universe? Because if we are the universe is in trouble.’

Edgar went on from NASA to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences, which investigates unusual mental abilities and paranormal phenomena.

UFO Experiences of Other Astronauts

Edgar Mitchell is not the only astronaut to say he has seen something unexplained in space. Astronaut Gordon Cooper claimed to have seen a “greenish object” flying over Edwards Air Force Base in1957. The object zoomed past his plane and landed on a nearby dry lake bed.

The second man to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, famously described seeing strange lights while piloting Apollo 11. “There was something out there that was close enough to be observed… sort of L-shaped,” he said in a 2018 interview.

UFO Investigations by the Government

In recent years, the U.S. government has grown increasingly transparent about its investigation of UFOs, now referred to as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UAPs. The Pentagon released a report in 2021 revealing 144 incidents involving unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) that were reported by military personnel since 2004.

The report found that most of the objects remained unexplained and exhibited unusual flight characteristics and technologies not currently in possession of the United States or its adversaries.
