When the FBI Went Hunting Bigfoot: The Curious Case of the Cryptid Hair Analysis
You might assume that the FBI already had a lot on their plate with real cases to handle, but a former FBI agent once spilled the beans that the agency once spent time investigating the whole Bigfoot thing and even tried testing supposed samples of Sasquatch hair.
The scoop comes from Tracy Shandler Walder – a 45-year-old from Texas who used to work as a special agent at the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.
The story in question supposedly goes back to the 1970s and involved the FBI looking into hair samples given by a hunter who said they came from the mythical creature.
Not surprisingly, the samples turned out to be from a deer, but the fact that the FBI took the time to check them out is what makes the situation really interesting.
“That hunter thought it was from Sasquatch or Bigfoot, they actually tested it and ran it through their forensic labs and it turned out to be a deer species,” said Walder.
“But it’s fascinating that the FBI actually got involved.”
“It kind of added to the wild ideas and credibility around it.”
Maybe the FBI had a reason to treat this case seriously? Did the agency know something about the phenomenon that we’re clueless about? We might never know for sure.
As for Walder, she has her own take on the Bigfoot phenomenon.
“I feel like with cryptids, I think they are likely real animal species that people have mistaken for something else or have never actually seen before,” she said.
“It seems close-minded of us to think we’ve found every single species out there in the world.”
“I don’t believe that we have.”
