THE TRUE CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: On October 10, 34-year-old Robert Owens was found nearly naked and face down on a lawn in China Grove, North Carolina. He had last been seen by family two days earlier, but his body went unnoticed, even by a groundskeeper who mistook it for a police training dummy. Owens’ family is seeking answers about his death, as police do not suspect foul play, despite defensive marks on his arms and missing personal belongings. Owens had a history of drug use, but it’s unclear if this played a role. The family is frustrated with the police’s handling of the case and is awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death, hoping for closure and justice. The case is still open and being investigated.
