“HIDDEN HISTORY OF THE SKULL AND CROSSBONES” #WeirdDarkness

This one was a bit to heady and intellectual for my own tastes but perhaps some smarter listeners will enjoy this episode! — Darren

Whenever we see a pirate ship on television, cinema or in comic books we also see an extremely ancient symbol – the skull and crossbones. This however, was not a symbol of death – at least not in the beginning – but instead it profoundly symbolized life in so many aspects. Many researchers of Templar and Masonic history have pointed out the links between this symbol and the one used by the Knights Templar on their ships. Sow how did this enigmatic image of the skull and crossbones become deeply entrenched in the minds of millions around the world as the symbol of piracy, death and even poison? Author Philip Gardiner gives us the history of the skull and crossbones.

The heqa sceptre (or shepherd's crook) was closely associated with the king and was even used to write the word "ruler" and "rule" in hieroglyphics. It was essentially a long stick with a hooked handle and in later times it was often composed of alternating bands of blue and gold. This sceptre became one of the most famous emblems of kingship.
