The Pope’s Exorcist (2023): Movie Review πŸ˜±πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

Finally got around to seeing The Pope’s Exorcist. A run-of-the-mill, paint-by-number exorcism flick that pushes so hard to be scary that it loses all believability and, ironically, all scares. The film does have a good premise, and it starts off with a lot of potential… but the digitally inserted deep voice of the demon-possessed boy is such a tired clichΓ©. Also clichΓ© is crosses on the wall turning upside down, lights suddenly going out, people being tossed across a room… well, you get the picture – because you’ve seen it a billion times in other (better) movies.

“You are getting veeeeery sleepy… when you awake, you will lie to your friends and tell them you enjoyed my movie…”

And the further you get into The Pope’s Exorcist, the more ridiculous it becomes, especially in the third act when the CGI is laughably bad and completely unnecessary. This movie may be “inspired by” a real priest, but there is nothing realistic in this flick in the last 30 minutes. Russell Crowe is the only entertaining part of the film (he is good in just about everything he is in) and that makes the film a somewhat enjoyable one-time-viewing fantasy flick, but certainly not a good supernatural or paranormal one. 1 out of 5 screams for me. πŸ˜±πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€
